PRESS RELEASE
Nokia extends mobile messaging offering with introduction of two new devices
Published October 28, 2003
The Nokia business mobile device range expanded with the addition of the Nokia 6810 and the Nokia 6820 messaging devices, which were simultaneously unveiled at the annual Nokia Mobile Internet Conference in Nice, France, and in “Destination Nokia 100% Pure Mobility” event held in Brisbane, Australia today. Designed to take advantage of a full keyboard and the 5-way scroll, the devices enable fast text-input and easy navigation for advanced messaging like mobile e-mail. The Nokia 6810 messaging device is expected to be available in Europe during the second quarter of 2004 and the Nokia 6820 messaging device is expected to ship globally during the first quarter of 2004.
These compact messaging devices are ideal for mobile professionals who need easy access to their company and personal e-mail and personal information (PIM). Both devices adhere to the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) specifications on Multi-media Messaging (MMS), instant messaging and presence (IMPS) and client provisioning. The tri-band GSM messaging devices are equipped with full connectivity options via Bluetooth technology, infrared and data cable. Advanced mobile voice, connectivity and enhancement options allow for efficient operation in mobile environments.
“A recent Nokia study clearly indicates businesses of all sizes are actively seeking solutions to mobilize access to business critical information,” said Niklas Savander, Senior Vice President, Terminals Business Unit, Nokia Enterprise Solutions. “For productivity gains and process improvement, access to e-mail and messaging are top priorities for businesses. The Nokia 6810 and the Nokia 6820 messaging devices are designed with mobile business professionals in mind -the devices are small and easy to carry but rich in features. Both phones are very efficient in terms of data input and access to resources over the network.”
Easy configuration and flexible implementation of mobile e-mail are the vital issues for adoption and approval of a mobile device by today’s professionals and information technology officers. With the Nokia 6810 and the Nokia 6820 messaging devices, users can select between several e-mail access options for both business and personal use. The built-in e- mail application (POP3, IMAP4, SMTP) with OMA-compliant over-the-air provisioning of e- mail settings will be available for both models. The devices also support BlackBerry® connectivity for encrypted access to corporate email *. High data speeds with EDGE technology provide excellent usability to e-mail services.
Nokia’s portfolio of business mobile devices today includes communicators, messaging devices, the Nokia D211 multicode radiocard and voice-centric devices. Nokia messaging devices, such as the Nokia 6810 and the Nokia 6820 have been designed with an extensive range of access methods and unparalleled size and ease of use.
