Brief Review! Nokia X3 "Touch and Type"

1. Construction and Design

The X3-02 Nokia Touch and Type is a mobile phone extremely small and super light weight (78 grams), with a construction based on an apparent plastic hardness, and the inclusion of a metal back cover.

By removing the back cover, we discover a 860mAh battery, and a part slots for SIM and micro SD card, which can be removed / inserted without removing the battery.

The upper right side we will find the hole for the lanyard, followed by the volume keys and a button lock / unlock screen.

   

In the lower end of X3-02, which is slightly curved, we'll find the external speaker, while in the upper the 3.5 jack for the headset, a micro USB port and the the standard's Nokia charger connection. The X3-02 Nokia has no external buttons to access the camera feature, so we have to activate it from the Symbian's user interface.

About screen, the Touch & Type X3 I can conclude that mounts a resistive touch panel 2.4-inch with excellent response, making it easy to control vertical navigation between different options. On the other hand, when the phone is under the direct impact of the sun's rays, the content is difficult to distinguish: the system does not allow us the option to manually adjust the brightness / contrast of the screen.

The alphanumeric keypad is one of the main elements of the X3-02, to write text messages, comment on Facebook or Tweet. The keys are large, somewhat hard to press, but i consider it's nothing that should worry us. In fact, if we introduce the text with the thumbs of both hands will be much easier.

  

Against all logic, the key "space" is not located in the center (as often happens) so we will find it in the lower right corner: At first we find it strange.

I recommend using the keyboard with predictive system (T9), to increase the speed when typing. The plastic housing of the X3-02 Touch and Type, which has a peculiar engraving, doesn't scratch easily.

2. Software and Operating System

The X3-02 runs fluid S40 Symbian OS 6 th Edition. We will not have different desktops or screens, but we can set 4 widgets for the home screen. We will have the choice between direct access, email account, social networks, music and favorite contacts ... and up to 14 different elements.

In the initial screen there are located, in the lower zone, 3 access touch keys: the middle to go to the applications menu, and two at the corners to easily configure the functions or apps that we use most often: for example sound modes and Wi-Fi network. In addition, the alphanumeric keypad include two central keys to activate through a single click! the music player and text messages (new inbox).

The application menu is simple and host icons for guide, music (including radio), Internet, messaging and picture (camera function includes activation of photographs), adjustments, OVI Shop, SIM applications and services. The user can change the menu view (list or grid), but can not sort the icons or create folders like Symbian S60 or Symbian ^ 3 do.

   

About the pre-installed software, the X3-02 includes Shazam and Communities (for social networks,  settings / applications / extras / collection), and the rest of the typical and basic apps built on a base operating system. Through the OVI Store and Wi-Fi network, users can download applications or additional games (includes mobile version of Guitar Hero).

Basic software addressed to people looking for a easy to use phone.

3. Performance Multimedia: audio and images

Music player. The X3-02 reveals a very satisfactory audio quality, but no thanks to the headset included in the packaging. Good results have been obtained through the WH-701 in-ear type headphones.

The software allows you to choose from 5 preset EQ modes: recommending the use of Pop / Jazz / Normal, and two modes adjustable through a 5-band equalizer.

Photo camera: the X3-02 have a 5MP camera with simple lens, not very sensitive in dark scenes.We will miss an autofocus and flash for indoors.

The owner of the Nokia X3-02 may choose to take pictures in sepia, grayscale or even negative, and 4 modes to adjust white balance.

Camcorder: recordings obtained with the X3-02 own low noise / pixelation, and are stored  in .3gp encoding format, compatible with PC / Mac, but not to be reproduced in many media players. 1 minute recording is equivalent to about 17MB of memory.

4. Other features

The X3-02 Touch & Type not only offers Bluetooth wireless connectivity, but also incorporates Wi-Fi to connect to a router and access to our Facebook account.

The X3-02 battery is 860mAh, enough to enjoy a long standby time, and keep a well energy consumption because of the resistive technology 2.4-inch screen.

5. Conclusions

The x3-02 Touch & Type is a super lightweight mobile phone, ideal for those who want to experience a first look of touchscreen devices but without abandoning the use of an alphanumeric keyboard (to write text messages or typing a phone number).

The X3-02 features a simple and intuitive user interface, good screen responsive to touch.
