Published September 23, 2004 The new Nokia 6670 offers the benefits of a powerful productivity tool, complete with a megapixel camera
September 23, 2004 – Nokia today introduced its latest addition to the company’s broadening range of megapixel imaging smartphones. Boasting a wide range of productivity features and a megapixel (1152 X 864 pixels) camera, the Nokia 6670 smartphone is ideal for the modern mobile professional who is seeking a reliable tool for better managing the balance between busy work and social life. Expected to be available in early October 2004, the Nokia 6670 phone will come in two variants; GSM 900/1800/1900 for Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asian markets, and GSM 850/1800/1900 for the Americas markets.
“We are witnessing a rapid shift from PDAs to smartphones, as manufacturers are able to include voice and PDA functionalities into a single device,” said Juha Putkiranta, Senior Vice President, Multimedia Imaging, Nokia. “With the introduction of the Nokia 6670 imaging smartphone, Nokia is driving the expansion of the smartphone market and strengthening its position to capitalize on this significant growth opportunity.”
In a compact, classic and elegant design, the new tri-band Nokia 6670 provides for effective and reliable communication, while also offering excellent imaging features. Based on Series 60, the industry-leading platform for smartphones, the Nokia 6670 offers document viewers for reading e-mail attachments, powerful personal information management (PIM) features, web browser with support for PDF files, and faster data input with the Nokia Wireless Keyboard. Users can also print their emails or images directly from the handset via Bluetooth wireless technology.
In addition to the high-resolution color display of 65,536 colors, and the 4x digital zoom for both pictures and video recording, the Nokia 6670 smartphone allows for quick and convenient capturing, printing, storing and sending of megapixel-quality images as well as video. The new photo editor application also enables enhancing the images instantly on the phone screen with crop, frame, autofix, and text-adding functionalities.
The Nokia 6670 smartphone offers enhanced security for professionals on the go. The phone is the first Series 60 product to support mobile antivirus software developed by F-Secure. Security can be further reinforced with the Nokia Mobile VPN (Virtual Private Network) Client and other key security features, such as Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption for web- based applications.
An ideal tool for efficiency and organization, and a huge step towards a truly mobile wireless office, the Nokia 6670 supports innovative Nokia enhancements, such as the foldable NokiaWireless Keyboard, which provides easy means, for instance, to reply to e-mails or messages. The Nokia 6670 smartphone is also compatible with the new Nokia Wireless GPS Module, launched today. Via Bluetooth wireless technology, the compact portable GPS receiver enables the use of a range of location-based applications and services, of which some offer turn-by-turn route guidance to a selected destination.
Other Nokia enhancements introduced today and supported by the Nokia 6670 smartphone include the lightweight Nokia Wireless Headset HS-11W, with convenient call handling features, as well as the Nokia Remote Camera, a wireless and compact home monitoring solution, which sends monitoring data directly to a compatible mobile phone as text messages, high-quality images or even video clips with sound.
Weighing 118 grams and measuring 109 x 53 x 21 mm, the Nokia 6670 imaging smartphone is based on Symbian OS, and is expected to retail for approximately 500 euros.
